Punjab is ready to establish ‘anti-drone unit’s in all its districts, according to the province’s Home Department.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved the launch of the unit. She remarked that authorities must adopt a policy of taking preemptive measures instead of reacting to incidents of terrorism.
The unit will be empowered to conduct aerial surveillance of the district with the help of special drones, according to a statement issued by the Punjab Home Department on March 6.
District police officers will lead the establishment of an anti-drone system. The fleet of surveillance drones and anti-drones system will be provided according to the needs of different districts.
“The anti-drone system will disable the drones of the enemy and miscreants with the help of jammers,” according to the statement. The home department also shared that the capacity of police is being increased for aerial surveillance and public safety.
Punjab has currently imposed Section 144 and banned the use of drones in public over security concerns, except for the use by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
The statement added that public safety, maintenance of law and order, and protection of property are the top priorities of the Government of Punjab.
Afghan Taliban have been reported to have used “rudimentary drones” to target various parts of the country, leading to which a ban has been imposed on flying unmanned aerial vehicles across the country.
