Pakistan and China are set to collaborate on joint ventures focusing on artificial intelligence, smart cities, and digital innovation following a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Federal IT and Telecommunication Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
The IT and Telecommunication Ministry said both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation through knowledge sharing, technical training, and joint projects in emerging technologies.
Khawaja laid out Pakistan’s strategy for using digital tools to boost economic growth and improve public services. Ambassador Jiang reiterated Beijing’s support for “practical cooperation and expertise exchange” to advance Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Discussions also touched on expanding collaboration in smart city solutions, AI applications, and broader digital economy initiatives. The ministry described the meeting as a step forward in Pakistan’s push for a tech-driven economy.
The government’s Digital Pakistan programme already focuses on broadband expansion, 5G rollout, e-governance, digital literacy, youth engagement, and investment in startups and IT exports. Officials say Chinese partnerships could give these efforts a much-needed boost.
