National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has criticised the National Assembly Secretariat’s continued reliance on paper-based administration, despite the acquisition of a digital e-office system a decade ago.
Speaking during an assembly session, Sadiq condemned what he called the “incompetence” of the Secretariat’s IT Department, which, he said, had failed to operationalise the digital system even after ten years.
“This is the incompetence of the IT Department of the National Assembly Secretariat, which has not been able to achieve digitalisation even after ten years,” the Speaker said, visibly frustrated.
The digital system — part of a broader push for e-governance — was first introduced in 2014-15. While the National Information Technology Board (NITB) completed its work and provided training to parliamentary staff, the Secretariat has yet to implement the e-office platform. Government affairs within the Secretariat continue to be managed through traditional file work.
There is growing concern that the decade-old digital infrastructure may become obsolete before it is ever put to use.
