The Lahore High Court has issued notices to relevant parties in a case challenging the unregulated import and sale of camera and mic-equipped smart glasses in the country.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition, filed by a citizen Husnainul Abideen, and issued notices to the federal government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, commerce ministry and other authorities.
Advocate Shahram Saqi, who was representing the petitioner, said that Meta Ray-Bans and similar camera-enabled smart glasses look like ordinary eyewear but can secretly photograph, record and live stream anyone the person wearing the glasses sees.
Although Meta did not officially list Pakistan as a market, the counsel said, the glasses are openly sold online and in shops in Lahore at various places, including Hafeez Centre.
The glasses are currently retailing for around Rs120,000 to 200,000 in the country, depending on the model.
The case has been adjourned till October 8, 2026.
