Based in Karachi, Hamna Iqbal Baig is a journalist and fact-checker at Pakistan's only International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) signatory, SOCH Fact Check, investigating disinformation. She recently served as a communications impact fellow at Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg, Austria. Prior to this, Hamna worked as a digital journalist for ARY News and SAMAA Digital in Pakistan. She was also a freelance contributor for the Pioneers Post UK reporting on social enterprises in Pakistan. Her areas of interest include mis/disinformation, culture, social issues and social entrepreneurship. Media Matters for Democracy is a Pakistan based not-for-profit geared towards independent journalism and media and digital rights advocacy. Founded by a group of journalists, MMfD works for innovation in media and journalism through the use of technology, research, and advocacy on media and internet related issues. MMfD works to ensure that expression and information rights and freedoms are protected in Pakistan.
