Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime wing received a total of 135,954 complaints from citizens so far while the ratio of resolved cases is only 616.
According to the document received by The Reporters under the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017, the cybercrime wing disposed off 124,691 complaints, 1465 complaints were converted into First Information Report (FIR) while only 616 cases were completed.
The Wing staff arrested 1,578 suspects whereas 572 cases against suspected persons were prosecuted in different courts. However, only 286 cases were resolved through courts.
The document states that the CCW didn’t receive any complaint against journalists. Likewise, the CCW neither registered any FIR against any journalist nor prosecuted cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that this correspondent had also requested for the certified copies of FIRs and details regarding courts decisions but the Wing neither provided copy of FIRs registered by the CCW nor information about the punishment announced by the courts, arguing that as per Section 16 of the RTI law, the said information cannot be shared.
