Used to handle media when Nawaz Sharif was the PM; current talks of media cell are just propaganda: Maryam Nawaz

ISLAMABAD, 26 October 2017: Pakistan Muslim League party leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that she used to handle media for her father, only until her father, Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister. She has termed the current talks about her media cell, propaganda.

She stressed that she currently does not run any media cell. “This is all a propaganda being run on purpose. I know who is behind this propaganda and I know the purposes behind propagating all this”.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s comments follow a series of arrests and a crackdown against pro PML-N twitter users, who have allegedly been linked to PML-N’s social media cell. PML-N and now Maryam Nawaz Sharif has denied the existence of the media cell. However, sources close to the operation confirmed the existence of a social media cell that was active and operational very recently.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed concern about the threats to freedom of expression in Pakistan today.

“These are the times when talking about democracy is equated with treason and talking about the lack of justice is seen as an injustice in itself”, she said, “If one talks about the misconduct of justice, one is held liable for contempt of court”.
