April 25, 2022 – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) busted a criminal network involved in the manufacturing and supplying of rubber (silicone) thumbs in what the agency claims was a “grand operation” in Dera Ismail Khan.

These thumb impressions were used for illegal SIM activations to create fake mobile wallet accounts, according to a statement issued by the FIA on April 23, 2022.

The raid was conducted by FIA’s Cybercrime Circle. During the operation, over 3,000 rubber thumbs, laptops, mobile phones, printing machines and other devices were recovered.

Last year, thousands of fake SIMs, identity cards, rubber thumbs and other incriminating material were recovered after members of a gang involved in illegal activities were arrested by the local police. The gang reportedly belonged to Punjab.
