Several Pakistani TV channels briefly taken over by unauthorised broadcasts

On the evening of Sunday, March 1, live television streams from some major Pakistani news channels were disrupted when unidentified individuals hijacked their broadcasts and inserted messages on screen that appeared to praise the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and criticise Pakistan’s armed forces.

The incidents happened shortly after sunset, ‌interrupting normal programming and replacing it with unwelcome content. In addition to altering live satellite feeds, the attackers allegedly used the affected channels’ websites to run advertising campaigns supportive of Mossad via third-party ad networks.

One of the messages read: “A certain faction of your army has brought destruction upon all of Pakistan. Stand up against it. Stand in front of it (Stop it).”

Among the media outlets impacted were Geo News, Samaa TV, and ARY News. Videos circulated widely on social platforms purporting to show this unauthorized material on their screens.

Geo News Managing Editor Azhar Abbas confirmed that their satellite broadcast had been targeted, emphasising that the inserted content was not connected to the channel’s editorial team. He said the network had been dealing with repeated attempts to interfere with its signal for about 24 hours and urged authorities to act against those responsible.

Local reports said Pakistan’s government agencies were conducting investigations into the breaches and had launched counter-cyber operations in response. So far, no official statement has been issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting or the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, and no individual or organisation has publicly claimed responsibility for the incident.
